30 Units HOWO Dump Trucks Delivered to Ethiopian Mining Project
We successfully completed the delivery of 30 HOWO NX series dump trucks to a major mining project in Ethiopia.
In November 2025, HOWO Special Truck Export Co., Ltd successfully completed one of our largest-ever single deliveries to East Africa — 30 units of HOWO NX 8x4 heavy-duty dump trucks for a major gold mining project in Ethiopia's Tigray Region.
The Customer and Project
The customer, a subsidiary of a multinational mining corporation, operates one of Ethiopia's largest open-pit gold mines. The project required a fleet of robust, high-capacity dump trucks capable of operating 12 hours per day, 6 days per week in extremely demanding conditions including steep inclines, rocky terrain, and temperatures exceeding 40°C.
Vehicle Specifications
The 30 HOWO NX dump trucks were specified with features specifically designed for African mining operations:
Each truck is powered by a WD615 420HP turbocharged diesel engine with enhanced cooling systems for tropical climates. The 8x4 drive configuration provides superior traction and stability on unpaved mining roads. The 30 cubic meter U-shaped cargo box features abrasion-resistant steel lining to withstand the harsh impact of ore loading.
Additional specifications include: heavy-duty reinforced suspension rated for 45-ton payloads, oil bath air filtration system for dusty environments, extended fuel tanks for 800km range, and air-conditioned cabins to ensure operator comfort during long shifts.
Delivery and Commissioning
The delivery was executed in three shipments over a two-month period. Each truck underwent our comprehensive 128-point pre-delivery inspection, including a 50-kilometer road test at our Jinan facility before being loaded for transport.
Our technical team traveled to Ethiopia to supervise the unloading, assembly, and commissioning process. They provided comprehensive training to 45 local operators and maintenance technicians, covering daily inspection procedures, routine maintenance schedules, and basic troubleshooting.
Performance Results
Three months after deployment, the customer reported excellent performance metrics:
Fleet availability averaged 94%, well above the industry standard of 85% for African mining operations. Fuel consumption remained within specified parameters at 42 liters per 100 kilometers under full load. The trucks achieved an average of 12 trips per day on the 8-kilometer haul route from the pit to the processing plant.
The project manager commented: "These HOWO trucks have exceeded our expectations in terms of reliability and performance. The fuel efficiency is particularly impressive compared to our previous fleet. We are already planning to order an additional 20 units."
This delivery reinforces HOWO Special Truck Export's position as a leading supplier of heavy-duty mining trucks to Africa's rapidly growing extractive industries.
